Kerburn Rose was founded on 1^st September 1990 by Charles Bunker with the objective of providing entrepreneurial, small and medium-size businesses with corporate finance and capital markets expertise which was then only available to much larger enterprises.  It was this expertise which helped one of Kerburn Rose’s clients become the second largest market research firm in the world, and saw it act as adviser to  National Westminster Bank on some of its large development projects. The firm grew quickly as a result of its acknowledged creativity in problem-solving. For example: the firms’ involvement in the rescue of Regent’s College and the European Business School set the strategy for these two educational establishments to become Regent’s University; today the U.K.’s largest private university. Kerburn Rose was one of the early pioneers of the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange, and was responsible for the first IPO of a United States company on AIM. At the same time, Kerburn Rose became a leading authority in internet investing, publishing the highly respected monthly analytical magazine called Internet Investor which predicted, well in advance, the burst in the dot.com bubble.  As part of its corporate finance work Kerburn Rose has been instrumental in bringing about technical changes in tax law; in one case enabling four Venture Capital Trusts to merge. In addition, the firm devised a unique capital structure, copied in many subsequent transactions, which enabled one company to acquire another by way of a share for share exchange, whilst incorporating deferred consideration into the transaction, without crystallising a tax liability on an unrealised gain, which would otherwise have been payable.
